Falltastic Coffee
Academic

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
The assignment for this project was to create a label for a coffee brand (real or fictional). In this case, I made up my own brand called Falltastic. The smell of coffee reminds me of the fall season and the cozy feelings that come with it. Imagine being cozied up on the couch with a warm blanket and your favorite sweater on, with a nice cup of coffee and a book. Best feeling ever!
Initial Mockups and Process

I sketched several mockups for the coffee can and I ended up choosing the last one because it left enough room for the actually type. I liked the second and third designs as well, however, I felt that I was focusing more on the illustration parts of those designs and by the time I got to the type, I questioned where it would go.

I freehanded the type on the can because a lot of the types in Photoshop did not have the elegant, cozy feel that I wanted. So, I sketched out two fonts, the left font is sans serif and the one on the right is more of a decorative font. In the end, I picked the sans serif font because it was more legible.

Once it came to creating the illustration of the can with the label, I experimented with different colors. In the first color study, I liked how it felt fall-like, but the leaves disappeared with the background color of the can. I tried different colors for the leaves to see if that would help, however, it seemed that my eye would only focus on the leaves and nothing else on the label, so I scrapped that color scheme. The yellow and the green labels didn't feel like autumn at all, so they were scrapped as well. I chose the last color scheme because I liked how the blue complimented the orange leaves. It made my eye travel from the top of the label to the bottom in a flowing composition.
